My Fake Tan Routine

If you know me personally you will know how much I LOVE fake tan! Don’t get me wrong I’ve had some fake tan disasters (but hasn’t everyone?!?!)

As a naturally pale person who unfortunately goes bright red in the sun I struggle to achieve that natural golden tan! Over the years of using fake tan I seem to have perfected my tanning routine and have found something which works amazingly for me!

So let’s tan......

First
If I am starting off a fresh, the first thing I will do is have a hot bath to open up my pores! I then SCRUB!! My go to scrub which I have used for years is the soap and glory flake away. This stuff is amazing! Once I age scrubbed I will then shave everywhere to get my skin ready for tan.

Second
Once I am out of the bath I will moisturise. My everyday go to moisturiser is the Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir - however when tanning I find this quite heavy, so in this case I would use my trusty Vaseline lotion! Now I don’t use this all over, just on my very dry patches I.e. shin, knees, ankles, feet, elbows and hands!

Third
Once I’ve let the moisturiser sink into my skin it’s now time to TAN! The tan which I use all the time is the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam in Dark! This stuff works perfectly for my skin and gives me that “natural” tan effect. I use the Bondi Sands mitt and apply 1 layer all over my skin. I will then let this sink in and go back in where I need any extra.
I never fake tan my face which looks a little crazy sometimes but I have never found a fake tan which doesn’t clog my pores and break me out. I just use a darker foundation so it matches!

Fourth
Once the tan is all applied I will go over my nails with a wet wipe so they don’t stain and will then pop on some long pyjamas so tan doesn’t get all over my sheets (which still sometimes happens!!)

Fifth
In the morning I will always rinse my tan off in the shower! I always refrain from rubbing my skin both in the shower and when I am drying to avoid any patches. Now I moisturise a nice thick cream (this is where my Jo Malone will come in!) as I feel this makes the tan really lock in and stick!

Sixth
In order to maintain my tan I will moisturise every single day. This helps to keep your tan for longer and also avoids patches when removing the tan.

So there is my tanning routine. Now I’m sure a lot of people (like me!) feel that without a tan your just not yourself, and for me that’s so true! It has taken me a lot of years of bad tanning mistakes to perfect this routine but I am always willing to try other tans just in case I find one which works better for my skin!

I hope you all are having a lovely Thursday! I know I am counting down till 5pm on Friday!

S xx

  1. Thanks for sharing! I am looking to get into a fake tan routine as I really want to get away from tanning in the sun so much (heard some horrible things about sun damage on your skin lately and I am pretty freaked out now haha) - but I really have no idea where to start! Thanks for recommending Bondi Sands, I am able to get it on Asos or Amazon which is great. I've also heard sooo much about Loving Tan, but that brand is super expensive to get here in Europe...
    Have a great weekend!
